John Miller
Founding Principal, Director

John
John has a merchant banking background and has worked on trading floors in Adelaide, Sydney and London. As Chief Manager of Treasury Risk Management at Societe Generale in the 1990s, he designed risk and pricing models. John’s quantitative risk management expertise spans interest rate, currency, equity, commodity and energy markets. From 1997 to 2003, John designed and developed the Quantum Treasury Risk Management system, Quantum Risk (QRisk), which has become an industry standard as part of US company Sungard Treasury Systems’ AvantGard Risk solution. Sungard is a global leader in treasury systems. It was during this period that John and fellow Hologram Founder/Director Guy Pitman met and worked together.

Guy Pitman

Guy
Starting his career as an actuary in Cape Town and London in the early 1980s Guy became a partner in the Sydney actuarial firm Trowbridge Tillinghast, where he built a successful treasury risk management practice. He joined Bank of New York (formerly Trans City Holdings) in 1986 as Director of Technical Development, where he developed the first risk management systems for derivatives and derivative products. In 1989 Guy moved to the State Bank of South Australia where he created treasury risk management systems and developed a fully integrated accounting, settlement and risk management system. In 1986, Global Information Systems (GIS) contracted Guy to develop a risk management system, Quantum Risk, with fellow Hologram Founder/Director John Miller.

Paul Phillips
Principal, Director

Paul
Paul has 30 years’ experience in the IT industry with a focus on financial markets. He began his career with a computer time sharing organisation, developing software for merchant banks, foreign exchange markets and financial planning. He worked at the Singapore Stock Exchange as Trading Systems Manager and later IT Manager, overseeing the trading system and clearing, settlement and depository systems. In 1991, Paul joined AMP Investments in Sydney, initially as a consultant and later IT Manager. In 1992 he moved to Hong Kong with Hewlett-Packard Asia Pacific. While in Hong Kong, Paul founded Financial Market Software Consultants (FMSC) with business partner Rob Hodgkinson, now a fellow Hologram Principal. FMSC developed a state-of-the-art trading system that was subsequently licensed to stock exchanges around the world where it remains a world-class trading product.

Rob Hodgkinson
Principal, Director

Rob
Rob Hodgkinson has worked in IT – developing software in financial markets with a focus on financial mathematics – for more than 30 years. He started his career as a consultant in array languages with I.P.Sharp Associates (IPSA), working on worldwide time series database collection, analysis and distribution systems. Later, Rob worked on IPSA research and development, coding a new implementation of APL for distributed Unix systems and devising advanced mathematical components. In 1986 Rob co-established CA Read & Associates, where he worked on option pricing systems and wrote the graphics front end for AMQ, AAP’s then widely-used market quotes system. Rob joined AMP Investments in 1989 to manage software development and oversee its new international portfolio management system, later overseeing the business’s IT infrastructure. In 1992 Rob formed Financial Market Software Consultants (FMSC) with Paul Phillips, which in 1995 was sold to Computershare, the publicly listed share registry company.
